University City
University City takes its name from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, located northeast of downtown Charlotte. The area around the university is a busy district with plenty of shops and services plus several new-home communities, including the county's most popular new sub-division Highland Creek. In addition to UNCC, University Hospital and University Research Park attract professionals to this area from across the country with job opportunities in a convenient suburban setting. Many University City residents live and work right in University City.
Dilworth
Dating back to 1890, Dilworth was Charlotte's first suburb. Over time the city grew out to encompass this neighborhood. Today, the areas main street, East Boulevard, is mostly commercial, with old homes converted to shops and restaurants. The residential architecture in Dilworth consists mainly of bungalows and large traditional homes. Located in Dilworth are Carolinas Medical Facility, a 843-bed academic teaching medical facility, and Holy Trinity Cathedral, the city's Greek Orthodox church.
Myers Park
This tree-lined neighborhood dates back to the early 1900's when it was just a new neighborhood out in the country. Today, Myers Park maintains its old-world elegance and is only a few minutes from uptown Charlotte. This convenient location along with a collection of classic homes makes Myers Park a very desirable neighborhood. Myers Park is home to Queens College, Myers Park Country Club, Theatre Charlotte, and Wing Haven.
Mint Hill
Mint Hill was incorporated in 1971. Town officials have been careful to preserve the rural feeling of this area through zoning and land-use plans. Mint Hill has a 54-acre community park and a 12,000 square foot library. If you are looking for a sprawling ranch or two-story home with some acreage, this is the area to try, although Mint Hill also offers plenty of new houses.
SouthPark
This is the city's most glamorous shopping district. There are also many offices and businesses in SouthPark, more than 30,000 workers, and the headquarters for some large national corporations. Of course, SouthPark is undergoing some new residential development, too. As one might imagine, this is a fairly upscale neighborhood.
